Dear friends/patients,

I have made the very difficult, but also exciting, decision to retire.  My final day of patient care will be March 31st, 2025.  Since my graduation in 1986, I had it in my mind that 40 years of practice sounded “right”; of course, I hadn’t anticipated the challenging impacts of the pandemic that would make the past 5 years feel more like a decade for many of us. It turns out that 39 years is the right time for me to step away.

The journey from my start in Milton in October, 1987 with just me and a single, awesome staff member has been incredible thanks to the patients that I have had the privilege of caring for along the way.  I am honoured that many of you have trusted me with your eye care for decades, and I will always cherish the relationship that we’ve had.  Thank you for growing along with the practice and with me, and for allowing me to share in so many important life events for you and your families.  I will miss you.

Fortunately, my dream of seeing the practice taken over by trusted, long-time colleagues who share my vision of patient care has come true: Dr. Benu Sabharwal and Dr. Beth Schellenberg will be the new owners of Milton Family Eye Care.  I am proud to have worked with Dr. Sabharwal since 2009 and with Dr. Schellenberg since 2017, and I know that many of you (or your family members) have already met them. Your patient records will transition seamlessly to Drs. Sabharwal and Schellenberg and they will be available immediately to see you for any eye care needs that you have. You are in excellent hands going forward.

Our amazing team will continue to provide all of the services that you’re used to, with the friendly faces and voices that you’re familiar with.  I would like to say a very special and heartfelt thank you to Amina, Irene, Angela, Janet, Nikki, Devin, Susan, Terri, Aqsa and Judy for their dedication and support.  This journey would not have been the same without them, or the many wonderful team members that I have worked with in the past, and I am truly grateful for all of those experiences.

I wish that I could have shared this news personally with each of you.  If you feel inclined to reach out with a response, my wonderful co-workers have set up an online retirement card where you are welcome to post your message at https://www.kudoboard.com/boards/dcUV2OMG .

With warmest regards and very best wishes,

Susan
